A brief History of the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Bookstore

Welcome to the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Bookstore Blog! Although the Camp has been here since 1875 and incorporated as a town since 1894, the Bookstore has only been in existence since 1987.

It started out as a lending library in one bookcase in this building (now known officially as the Andrew Jackson Davis Bookstore & Information Center Building) and kept expanding. When people inquired about being able to purchase books, volunteers started buying books to sell in 1987 and the number of bookcases grew.

Back then, the area of the Andrew Jackson Davis Building that is now the Bookstore and Information Center encompassed several distinct rooms including Classrooms, Massage/Healing rooms and the Camp Office as well as the back Meeting Hall. Interest in the books for sale grew and grew as did the number of bookcases until finally, the Camp moved the Camp Office out of the Davis Building and up to its current location in the Summerland House. The walls partitioning the other classrooms were removed and the Bookstore and Information Center expanded to encompass the whole front third of the Davis Building. Customers began clamoring for other spiritual merchandise so new displays were added along with more and more bookcases.

In the last expansion, the wall separating the Bookstore from the Meeting Hall was moved back about 10 feet, and that is the Bookstore you see today. We made a conscious decision to not only offer the widest selection of books and information on Spiritualism and Metaphysics, but to be the premier location for books and merchandise for ALL spiritual seekers. We are proud of our incredibly diverse selection of books, CD’s, DVD’s, magazines, greeting cards, posters, crystals & stones, jewelry, candles, oils, incense, smudge, statuary, singing bowls and gift items.
